Yes I went to the elders and they did help me out
They told me not to go to any counselors. They told me if I did go to counselors not to tell them I was a JW. They told me to pray more and go to all meetings and more service. They told me to be in submission to my husband and the congregation.
I was suicidal, severely depressed, abused, alone and overwhelmed.
Yup they really did help me... out the door. Thank you elders. Then I really got the help I needed to get better.
Sadly there are so many (like many of you here - (((HUGS))) to all of you) who suffer like I did for years believing the elders were spirit-anointed and their counsel from God. "Let My people go!" Think the borg oughtta listen

as many of you may know in recent weeks wt has moved to silence victims and advocates by disfellowshipping those who have spoken out on child molestation within the organization.
spokesman for jehovahs witnesses have made allegations that are untruthful, from saying that they had no idea who was appearing on dateline, stating that it has been established policy that child molesters work only in twos in the door to door ministry, to stating the judicial meetings were over other sins against god.
I was thinking exactly what jst-me posted - can we arrange this at out local KH to show support. I would be willing to do it here. I might be the only one but I like to read . I like the media.

Don't you know that the reason unfit men are appointed as elders is so that the r&f are tested as to their loyalty? After all we all know everything will be put right in God's due time. Right? this is mostly directed to others that were born/raised in the cult.
more specifically those raised in the cult who also suffered from severe depression and/or social anxiety disorder or any other mental illness (other than the normal probs that come with being in the borg).

when it came out, the elders and my mother chose to put me in foster care and keep the abuser in the home and congregation - supposedly to keep me safe.. i believed that at the time.
my step-father who had abused me was no longer around so it was "safe" for me to come home from the foster home (more than 500 km away).
Hi there mouthy - nice to see you again. Yup you knew him and my mother - well the whole family really. Abuse and dysfunction all the way through it - I wasn't at all surprised when he went bad and could well imagine what Sue went through - thought she should have left him long before - bet the elders had their hand in that too.
As for my ex - Yup he sure could quote those scriptures and mostly to use to manipulate and control others - my girls went a time not speaking to him. He finally got the message to stop preaching to them. I had enough of the preaching stuff and decided early on to let them make up their own minds. They could choose to go to the meetings with their father or stay home. The youngest went for a short while but soon stopped and neither have gone back - Phew

i was really touched by those who responded to my story.
since posting it however, i have not felt like the strong person those who replied made me out to be.. between posting my story, wanting to post my story at silentlambs, and the pure bullshit the wts is spewing and causing those honest souls who risk and are feeling the wrath of the gestapo to protect victims, i haven't slept; my nerves are on a raw edge; my migraines won't go; i'm on the verge of tears out of the blue; i'm afraid of nightfall; i'm afraid of noises, of phonecalls, of mail.
i'd kick the crap outa my heavy bag if i had the energy.
Hang in there - one breath at a time - one minute at a time.

Memories do pass. I rarely get them - need something to act as a trigger and I know what those are now so can minimize the damage.
This does not need to take over your whole life. Read - there are tons of things on the net Get more therapy from a trauma specialist if you need it. Be grateful for the small things - the tiny steps because it is all those tiny steps that add up to our healing

i've lurked here for some time now, and posted a few times but wasn't going to do this until a couple other sweet members here suggested i do - so here it goes.
to tell my story, i have to go back to the beginning.. when i was 3yrs old, i had a very loving older brother, craig, who was 5yrs old.
while we were out playing on a montreal street one day, a streetcleaner with a hungover driver hooked my brother, dragged him several feet, and ran over him, in front of me.

Your story is tragic. Despite going through my own horror story it always saddens me when I read of another person's life who has been turned upside down and inside out by abuse.
I learned there is strength inside that kept us going. I thought I was weak but let's face it - it takes strength to endure that kind of torture on a daily basis.
That the borg forces people to stay in these familes just proves their blindness to dyfunction and abuse. Most abusers whether they are an individual or group cannot see the horrific damage abuse does to the victims.
You survived. I'm sure some days life is still a struggle. Don't ever give up. Life is most definitely worth it.
So are you.

Hooray for you Balsam and wow to find a lost love and be with him. Good for the kids too. How sad though that they were ever in that position to need to defend you.
the borg just does not understand the horrific damage done to people who are the victims of violence and to the children who have to witness it.
The price of our freedom from an abusive marrige was to leave our religion and social community. In the final analysis an excellent deal. I thought I was losing something when I was forced out. In reality I gained everything.

I have learned along the way that by sharing my story I can offer hope to other and freedom form the isolation that the borg places on victims of abuse whether they were child victims or adults. Together we can offer support and encouragement to each others and to those who are still trapped in a system that tells them that their abuse is somehow God's will - to test them and their patience to wait on Him. Poppycock!!!
We need to set ourselves free of this tyranny and oppression
